SL400 / 500 / 600
:
A new dimension in cultivator performance
Although new to the market, the SL range of cultivators has undergone rigorous testing and analysis on farms in the UK, Europe and the Southern Hemisphere. Built around proven, innovative components mounted on a central chassis, SL cultivators are capable of carrying out a number of operations in a single pass.
With working widths of 4, 5 and 6 metres respectively, the SL 400, 500 and 600 models can each be specified with a choice of two configurations allowing for different soil types and crop residues.
Ideally suited to normal conditions, the standard Disc Tine Disc (DTD) format comprises a single row of X-Press type discs followed by 2 rows of ST tines, another set of discs and a new generation 600mm DD Lite rear roller.
Alternatively, the Disc Disc Tine (DDT) layout with 2 rows of discs positioned ahead of the tine bar and rear DD Lite roller, is more suited to situations where there are high volumes of surface trash to incorporate. The double chopping of the discs being necessary to ensure the clear passage of trash through the machine.
The design of these machines ensures that they can work at shallow depths with the discs and deeper depths with loosening tines as two distinct operations within the machine. This is a different concept to some other machines where deeper working tines, for example, have to supplement the working operation of discs. This can result in a compromise where clods are boiled to the surface, reducing seedbed quality. With the SL, the key design criteria of the tine is to give a complete shatter of the soil profile at depth without bringing clods and subsoil to the surface.
Front Discs
(1 row on Disc Tine Disc models, 2 rows on Disc Disc Tine models)
One or two rows of serrated discs at the front of the machine chop and mix the surface trash. Manufactured from boron steel to give extended working life they are 500mm (20”) in diameter. Each disc is mounted on a Pro-Active leaf spring allowing better contour following and improved stone protection. The discs working angle can be adjusted using a track rod system operated by a single handle giving stepless change.
ST Tines
Two rows of Shallow Tines (ST) are fitted as standard. The number of tines varies between 10 and 14, depending on the model/working width. The Simba Horsch TerraGrip legs have six depth settings in 25mm increments and a choice of knock on points, to create a cultivation effect that can be readily matched to the soil type and conditions. Low Disturbance (LD) Tines are available as an option. This innovative leg performs considerable cultivation and soil restructuring at depth in the root zone without disturbing or inverting any weathered tilth from the surface.
Rear DD Roller
The soil is consolidated at the rear of the machine with a revised DD roller featuring 600mm rings at a closer spacing than normal. This arrangement not only firms the ground to depth but also leaves a fine, level tilth. A revised lower scraper Solo STRear DD Rollerbetween each pair of rings ensures that any blockages in damp conditions are minimised.
Rear Drawbar
Fitted as standard, a rear drawbar with hydraulics enables you to pull a light roll or press in tandem with the cultivator. When an optional Oilseed Rape Kit is fitted the rape seed is blown to the rear of the DD rings on a firmed level surface. A following roll consolidates the seed without loss of moisture.
